Please collect your race number early.

An exhibition of running equipment will also take place and you can get

answers to many questions about "running".

Only participants with official starting numbers for the 23rd Bewag BERLIN

HALF MARATHON 2003 are permitted to take part. The race number is not

transferable. Race numbers are to be worn on the chest with the name and the

barcode clearly visible and no alterations to the numbers are permitted.

Timekeeping:

Times will be measured using the Real-Time Champions Chip, marketed by Mika

Timing GmbH, Strundepark, Kürtener Straße 11 B, 51465

Bergisch-Gladbach, Tel.: +49 (2204) 98 10 33. The chip can be purchased for

€ 31,00 or rented for the event. To rent the chip, participants must

deposit € 31,00 when they receive their race number. Upon return of the

chip, € 25,00 will be refunded. Chip return is only possible on the day of

the event (in the tent). Chips that are not returned are considered to be

purchased and can be used at other events. Please fasten the chip to your shoe

or skate (not on the blade and not with metal), otherwise your time will not be

measured.

Attention:

Any form of alteration to the bib will lead to disqualification.

Make sure you get to the start in good time. Use of public transport is

advised. Do not spoil your chances of turning in a good performance by having

to rush to the start and getting nervous about being late.

Start

Starting time for runners is 10 a.m. at Karl-Marx-Allee, corner of

Grunerstraße. Running direction to Alexanderplatz.

Inline-Skaters will start at 9:30 a.m.,

Power-Walker will start at 9:35 a.m.,

Wheelchair competitors at 9:55 a.m.,

FUN-RUNNERS at 10:25 a.m.,

Toilets are located at the start. Changing tents and German Red Cross tents

for depositing belongings are available in Alexanderstrasse (near the tent and

the finish line). Leave all items at your own risk! No valuables!

Starting blocks

Each block will be assigned a colour, and the coloured sticker on your bib

indicates your starting block.

Along the course

No wheeled vehicles of any kind (cars, bicycles, motorcycles) are permitted to

accompany runners. Skateboards and other wheeled devices (with the exception of

wheelchairs used by competitors. Inline-skating will be a separate

competition!) are also prohibited, and no animals are allowed on the course.

The most famous monument in Germany, the Brandenburg Gate, located between

"Unter den Linden" and "Straße des 17. Juni", will be

reached 3.0 km after the start. After being a symbol of the city’s and

the nation’s division for a number of decades, it is now a symbol of the

reunification.

Refreshment points will be located on your right hand side at km 7.5, 12.5

and 17.5 where tea and water will be available. Do not run too long without

drinking, especially in warm weather conditions.Toilets will be located at the

refreshment points at 12.5 and 17.5 km, as well as in the starting and

finishing areas. If you require medical assistance, we suggest that you try to

reach the next refreshment point, where the necessary facilities will be

available. Should you be compelled to retire from the race, a special bus

following the runners will take you to the finishing area.

Please be considerate of other competitors during the race if you want to

change lanes, spit or cross the course to reach a refreshment point. For the

safety of all please be aware of the other runners.

It is a great help if you are thoughtful and kindly throw your empty cups

into trashcans at the refreshment points. Be environmentally friendly and

don’t throw cups into rivers or canals.

Finish

The finishing line crosses Alexanderstraße next to carpark 1 and will

remain open until 1 p.m. Do not stop on the finishing line, keep on moving,

others are following close behind. We recommend that you do not stop abruptly

but slow down gradually.

Should you feel unwell, doctors and medical staff will be on hand to help.

Facilities for changing your clothes and taking a shower will again be

available at: Red Cross station next to finish area

Please do not forget to pick up all your clothes and personal belongings. Do

not leave your shoes with the chip unattended-Danger of THEFT!

Chip return is in the tent.

Results

The final and complete list of results will be sent automatically to every

participant together with his/her certificate as soon as possible. The awards

ceremony will be held at 12 noon in the tent (first six women and men, three

first wheelchair athletes and speed-skaters).

Preliminary certificates will be available in the tent approx. 45 minutes

after the finish.
