Berlin Marathon World Record ratified by IAAF

The international athletics federation IAAF has now ratified the world record mark of 2:03:38 hrs by Kenyan Patrick Makau at the BMW BERLIN MARATHON on September 25th, 2011. Also ratified was Makau´s world record for 30 km as a split time of the same marathon.

40,000 entries sold out: BMW BERLIN MARATHON 2012 has closed registration

As of today (Tuesday) there are only 1,000 entries left at the BMW BERLIN MARATHON 2012. Those last 1,000 tickets are available for an extra 42,195 euros which is a charitable donation for projects helping children (RTL Spendenmarathon). The field is limited to 40,000 runners. Only 4,000 entries left for the BMW BERLIN MARATHON 2012

Until Tuesday, November 29th, 35,000 runners have registered for the BMW BERLIN MARATHON on September 30th, 2012. The participant limit is set at 40,000 which means that only 4,000 spots are left. Another 1,000 entries are available for an extra 42,195 euros which is a charitable donation for projects helping children (RTL Spendenmarathon). Registration had started October 20th. After four days almost 20,000 had registered.

Over 26,000 runners have already signed in

Two weeks after registration for the BMW BERLIN MARATHON 2012 had started already 26,761 runners have signed in. A year ago this figure had been reached only by mid-January, two and a half months after registration kick-off. Participation limit is set at 40,000. Sabine Berg and Ewen Fernandez win the Inline Skating titles at the 38th BMW BERLIN MARATHON

The Inline skating races at the 38th edition of the BMW BERLIN MARATHON produced two sensational results: Sabine Berg from Gera won the women’s title in a mass sprint and the Frenchman Ewen Fernandez took the men’s crown after a daring breakaway from 21 kilometres. All roads lead to Berlin. First, on Thursday, came women’s world record holder, Paula Radcliffe, ready to revive a flagging career in Sunday’s 38th BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. Later that day, the German Pope arrived, and drove part of the marathon course, en route to say mass in the Olympic Stadium. Then today, Friday, came the heavenly twins of men’s marathoning – world record holder and living legend Haile Gebrselassie, and last year’s Berlin winner Patrick Makau, out to strengthen his tenuous grasp...

Paula Radcliffe’s long moment of truth?

It should be a match made in heaven, the women’s marathon world record holder finally running on the universally recognised fastest marathon course in the world. But it’s been two years since Paula Radcliffe ran a 42.195k race, finishing fourth in New York 2009, and, on her own admission today, “I was hurting”.


Her only race since then was, again in her own words, “a bit of a disaster”. That was a 10k in London in May, when she finished a poor third, in 33.17, the sort of time that she did...

The best part of it: your friends and family can all see exactly where you are on the course.


The BMW BERLIN MARATHON will be broadcasted live in more than 150 countries. In Germany n-tv will start it´s 4 hours live coverage at 8.30 a.m. International coverage is provided by Eurosport, BBC 2, Supersport, Al Jazeera, Sport 5 (Israel), Fuji TV (Japan), CBC (Canada), Sky Mexico, Globosat (Brasil) and by Universal Sports via cable and Webstream in the U.S.

The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2011 gives you the opportunity to receive race results as SMS messages or via email. All you have to do is to register for this service by providing your mobile phone number and/or your email address for a starting number of your choice. Visiting Haile Gebrselassie in Ethiopia

Haile Gebrselassie at the starting line of the BMW BERLIN MARATHON on September 25th

With the BMW BERLIN MARATHON 100 days away, race director Mark Milde announced the return of marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie to the streets of Berlin. Here the Ethiopian superstar of long distance running had his greatest success as a marathon runner winning four times in a row between 2006 and 2009 clocking the world marathon record twice (2007 and 2008). His record time of 2:03:59 hrs still stands to day as the mark to beat.

WMM Series leaders Kebede and Shobukhova pace world’s best into London and Boston

The 2010–2011 World Marathon Majors series resumes with a doubleheader weekend, beginning with the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday, April 17, then jumping over the Atlantic for the Boston Marathon the next day.

The WMM series leaderboard is sure to be reshuffled in the chase for the $1 million jackpot. Many of the world\'s top marathoners will be looking to chase down WMM series points leaders Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia and Liliya Shobukhova of Russia on the streets of London.

Registration closed at BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2011

Registration for the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2011 has closed as 40,000 entries have been reached by Monday morning, February 28th. The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON takes place on September 25th and belongs to the World Marathon Majors, the five most important marathons worldwide, accompanying the Virgin London Marathon, the Boston Marathon, The Bank of America Chicago Marathon and the ING New York Marathon.

Almost 24,000 have registered for the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON

23,931 registrations was the count on Wednesday, January 5th, at noon time. Thus a little more than 1,000 spots are left of the second wave of entries (until 25,000). Entry fee at this stage is 80 Euros, thereafter, until the total participation limit of 40,000 is reached, it is 100 Euros.
