IAAF.org: Running Down-Under, up North / 25,000 participants in Stockholm

Close to 25,000 participants for a completely new running event sounds like the

perfect beginning to what should become a long lasting tradition. But actually

the first edition of “Tunnelloppet” in Stockholm last Sunday was

also the very last edition! The solution to this paradox lies in the fact that

the course used never again will be available for running.

Because the major part of the race course stretched through

“Södra Länken” (“The Southern Link”) a

gigantic underground traffic complex consisting of a total of 17 km of road

tunnels built to help eliminating some of the traffic congestion problems in

the Swedish capital.
