Women's World Marathon Majors Series Champions' Race Will Come Down to Last Race of the Season

For the second consecutive year, the World Marathon Majors Series women's champions race will come down to the final race of the season at the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday November 2, with three women still in contention for the $500,000 champion’s purse. Reigning WMM Series champion Gete Wami of Ethiopia (65 points), Irina Mikitenko of Germany (65 pts) and Catherine Ndereba of Kenya (41 points) are all in the hunt for the women’s title.

Haile shatters own world record in Berlin

Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia shattered his own marathon record in the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON on Sunday morning, running 2:03:59, to become the first man in history under 2:04 for the distance. Weather Forecast for the 35. real,- BERLIN-MARATHON on Sunday Morning

It will be warm as the area of high pressure currently over Germany – FODY – will gradually reduce although incoming breezes from the North See of the PELAGIA cyclone will have only limited effect. Temperatures will be between 8 and 10 degrees Centigrade at 8 o’clock for inner Berlin, expected to rise to their highest of 18 degrees between 1500 and 1600. The westerly wind will increase, reaching a peak strength of 5 and 6 in isolated cases.

Haile back on world record course

Haile Gebrselassie returns on Sunday morning to the scene of his 25th world record, 2.04.26 in the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON last year. The Ethiopian shows little sign of slowing down, and with a swipe at cyclist Lance Armstrong for daring to retire three years ago (and now planning a comeback), the Ethiopian suggested that he himself might still be running and racing up to the 2016 Olympics, when he would be 43 years of age.

Seven Finisher Clip cameras are capturing all participants of the 35th real,- BERLIN-MARATHON

This year, the athletes of the 35th real,- BERLIN-MARATHON are offered a very special service: On race position 10 km, half marathon, 30 km, 35 km and at the finish line, the runners have to smile – because they will be focused by seven cameras.

Registration closed - only charity and tour group entries remain open

As early as never before the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON has sold out as it has reached its participant capacity of 40.000 entries. The race, which is celebrating its 35th running this year on September 28th, has been the stage of five world records (men and women) in the last ten years. The current world record mark of 2:04:26 by Haile Gebrselassie was set on the flat and fast Berlin course last year.

The Kenyans Patrick Makau Musyoki and Peninah Arusei win with fast times

Once again the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON has produced top-class winning times. The 28th edition of the race also ended in a victorious Kenyan double.
